Agriculture
Agriculture is available as an elective course, Agricultural
Technology, of either 100 or 200 hours duration in Year 9
and as Agriculture in Year 10 or as 2 unit Agriculture, Years
11 and 12.
Agriculture is sometimes seen as a less than viable career
choice, particularly for girls. At Calrossy School we are
fortunate to have access to a diverse range of highly successful
and innovative rural industries in our region to demonstrate
the potential success and rewards that can be obtained by
both men and women in the agricultural arena.
Students develop practical skills and gain knowledge in a
variety of agricultural enterprises utilizing school based
and local industry resources. Technologies that are environmentally
sound are investigated.
As an extension of the Agriculture course, students
have the opportunity to participate in an extremely popular
and highly successful beef cattle showing program. Here students
are able to develop skills in stock handling, management,
show preparation, parading, assessment and judging at local
and national shows. The girls involved have the opportunity
to gain skills to a professional standard that is highly regarded
within the beef cattle industry.
