DRAMA
"All the world's a stage
"
Drama at Calrossy is about instilling the desire to communicate
through enactment. In fact it is much more than what is on
the stage! It includes what occurs behind the stage, behind
the mask and behind the actor's dialogue.
Through the study of drama Calrossy students acquire social
and life skills that will benefit them long after they have
left school and entered the adult world. Drama encourages
self-confidence, teaches students the abilty to listen more
actively and develops skills that enable students to relate
more readily to others.
While students must learn to understand thoroughly the theoretical
aspects of this subject much classtime is devoted to workshops
that develop practical skills such as voice, movement and
speech. Playbuilding and improvisation are also important
parts of the junior and senior courses.
In order to develop critiquing skills students are given
the opportunity to attend both amateur and professional performances
locally and in the metropolitan area.
Drama is regularly taken out of the classroom context with
students presenting performances at the Tamworth Eisteddfod,
school assemblies, soirees, local theatresports tournaments
and at a number of community events. Calrossy mounts a major
production each year.
Drama is available as an elective course of either 100 or
200 hours in Years 9 and 10 or as a 2 unit HSC subject in
Years 11 and 12.
