Curriculum

Food Technology

Food technology is available as an elective course of either 100 or 200 hours in Years 9 and 10.

Undertaking the food technology course will enable students to make informed decisions based on knowledge and understanding of the impact of food in society, of food properties, preparation and processing, and the interrelationship between nutrition and health.
Practical experimentation occupies a large component of the course. Nutrition and safe food preparation skills are emphasised throughout the course.

Students will use a variety of information and communication technologies through such activities as researching, evaluating and communicating issues and ideas related to food.
Students will gain an insight into the hospitality industry as they conduct catering functions on a small scale.

The composite classes conducted at Calrossy allow the Year 10 students to mentor the Year 9 students. This encourages the breaking down of barriers and the sharing of knowledge.
All students are encouraged to enter community -based competitions.
