Curriculum

Music

Music at Calrossy is an exciting, dynamic and inspiring facet of the school. All students participate in both classroom music and school performances. Our annual Carols Service, in which every girl participates in harmonic choral work, is a highlight of the school year. The House Music Competition, held in April, also features every Calrossy student in a vocal and/or instrumental capacity. Calrossy boasts the only school orchestra in Tamworth, as well as an accomplished jazz band, string ensemble, wind group and two choirs. Students of Calrossy have the rare opportunity to hire a musical instrument and/or participate in private instrumental tuition on school grounds. Calrossy ensembles regularly achieve high results at both the Tamworth and Armidale eisteddfods, as well as performing at local community and charity functions throughout the year.

In the classroom, Calrossy offers the Music 1, Music 2 and Extension H.S.C. courses, the elective Stage 5 course and the mandatory Stage 4 course. Students investigate topics as diverse as Baroque Music, Jazz and Film Music. Several excursions and concerts are available to students during the year serve to complement the classroom teaching program.

Calrossy Music is well-known throughout Tamworth and boasts a proud tradition of distinction and excellence.
