Curriculum

Textiles Technology

This new course is an exciting approach to the creating of textile items. It will build upon the basic skills that students have experienced while participating in the Technology (mandatory) course and Performance electives during Stage 4.

Areas of study, which include Design, Properties and Performance of Textiles and Textile and Society, are integrated into units of work. This holistic approach provides students with a broader knowledge base.

Greater emphasis has been placed on documenting the development of practical skills in a design folio using information and communication technologies.

The students have an opportunity to use their skills in a real situation. While undertaking the unit "The World is a Stage " the class design and produce costumes for the characters in the school drama or music production.

Classes use the latest in computerised sewing machines. Guest textile artists are invited to share their knowledge with the classes.

The composite classes conducted at Calrossy allow the Year 10 students to mentor the Year 9 students. This encourages the breaking down of barriers and the sharing of knowledge.

All students are encouraged to enter community based competitions.
