Curriculum

Visual Arts

Visual Art is a mandatory course in Years 7 and 8. After that it is available as an elective course of either 100 or 200 hours in Years 9 and 10 or as a 2 unit HSC subject in Years 11 and 12.

We would like our students to find their visual "voice", confident that they don't have to be Michelangelo to be creative, and confident to make their own statement with their art.

We aim to assist students in developing and refining their own artistic practice.

The Visual Arts Department focuses on providing students with creative opportunities using a wide range of quality materials and encourages greater autonomy as students progress from the mandatory years, through elective and on to senior level should they wish to continue.

In the junior years valuable basic skills and understandings are developed and students are assisted by a more structured program in their exploration of the expressive potential of materials.

The elective and senior courses aim to develop this further by allowing students to investigate themes and select materials with greater independence, choosing their own paths.
