Our School

Calrossy Anglican School offers a warm, stable and supportive community enriched by Christian values.  Since 1919, we’ve been equipping girls with the skills and qualities they’ll need as they face a rapidly changing world, and encouraging them to reach for their goals with confidence.

At Calrossy Anglican School, rich traditions unite with innovative and dynamic academic curriculums and co-curricular experiences, to provide a quality education for young women.
Our philosophy and our pastoral care are firmly based on the teachings of Jesus Christ, and all students are encouraged to explore the rich diversity of the Christian faith; however we are also committed to helping students understand the ideas and philosophies that have shaped their world.

We welcome students of all faiths and backgrounds, and support and extend students of differing abilities and interests.

History

Calrossy was founded in 1919 by a group of parishioners from St John's Parish Church. Tamworth, led by the vicar, Canon Rupert Fairbrother. It began with just seventeen students.

Known originally as the Tamworth Church of England Girls' School, it first occupied a site close to the church in East Tamworth. Lessons were held in the church hall and the boarding house was an old building on the corner of Brisbane and Carthage Streets.

In 1923, the school moved to its present site in Brisbane Street, a property formerly owned by Mr. John Patterson. His fine old home, the centrepiece of our school was named Calrossy after the family property in Scotland.

The school eventually adopted the name ‘Calrossy’ in 1969. It remained a parish school until 1936 when it was taken over by the Diocese of Armidale.  In 2006 the School combined with William Cowper School, and in 2008 became known as Calrossy Anglican School. Calrossy Anglican School values this rich spiritual heritage, continuing to provide an educational community where innovative education and genuine Christian values unite.

Today Calrossy Anglican School offers a Primary and Secondary Boys' school on the William Cowper Campus, and a Secondary Girls' Day and Boarding school on the Brisbane Street Campus.
