Shorthorn Sucess

Calrossy has shown when it comes to breeding and preparing cattle it can do it as good as the commercial studs.

Our own cattle stud, Kamilaroi Shorthorns, based at the school farm, Tangara, has taken out the coveted title of “Champion Breeders Group" at the 58th National Shorthorn Sale and Show in Dubbo last week.

Kamilaroi Shorthorn bulls won Champion (Kamilaroi Fusion), Reserve Champion (Kamilaroi Net Gain) and third (Kamilaroi Zuri) in Division 1 at the sale, and another won Reserve Champion in Division 3. We were competing against some of the nation’s leading shorthorn producers, with more than 31 vendors at the show and sale from across Australia. Calrossy and Yanco Agriculture were the only schools represented. Calrossy’s six bulls went under the hammer on Wednesday fetching an average price of $8,100, with four of the bulls selling for a solid $10,000.

Calrossy’s shorthorn stud forms part of the students study in Primary Industries, where the senior students gain hands-on experience and expertise with livestock and real world industry experience.
