For more than 100 years, Calrossy Anglican School has marked the festive season with one of its most cherished traditions—the Calrossy Christmas Carols. Since the School's foundation in 1919, this special evening has brought together students, staff, families, and the wider Tamworth community to celebrate the birth of Jesus through music, reflection, and worship.
Rooted deeply in Calrossy’s Anglican heritage, the Carols are more than just a concert. They are a living expression of the School’s mission— Excellence in a Christian Environment —and its core values of Integrity, Selflessness, Resilience and Inclusiveness.
Singing Through the Generations
Music has always been central to the Carols, and generations of students have taken part in creating the powerful and moving performances that define the night. A long-standing highlight is the final song, The Lord Bless You and Keep You by John Rutter, performed in three-part harmony by the combined choirs. This tradition began decades ago and continues to bring a sense of reverence and unity to the close of each year.
As Calrossy has grown and evolved—including the amalgamation with William Cowper and the inclusion of boys and younger students—the Carols have adapted too. Moving to the William Cowper Campus allowed for more families and guests to attend, while maintaining cherished musical elements that honour the past.
Faith at the Heart
The Carols are also a powerful reminder of the School’s Christian identity. Calrossy Chaplain, Rev. Mark Rundle, says the event is a moment to return to the heart of Christmas.
“Christmas is a time to celebrate God’s great love for us, shown in the gift of Jesus our Saviour. The Calrossy Carols allow us to pause, reflect and worship together. It’s about hearing the message of peace and hope in a very real way.”
Principal Mr David Smith echoes this sentiment, explaining how the Carols reflect Calrossy’s commitment to both tradition and purpose.
“At Calrossy, we are deeply rooted in our Christian values. The Carols are not just a school event—they are a statement of who we are as a community, committed to sharing joy, faith, and the timeless story of Christmas.”

A Gift to the Community
Every year, the Calrossy Christmas Carols are an open invitation to all—families, alumni, and the wider community. The event is a highlight of the school calendar, and a true reflection of the school motto: Learn, Grow, Serve. It’s also an opportunity to give back, with a collection taken during the Service for Anglicare’s Christmas Appeal, supporting those in need across our region.
Adding to the festive spirit this year, the Calrossy P&F will host a community BBQ from 5:30pm on the verandah outside Bishop Peter Chiswell Hall. It’s a chance to share a relaxed meal before the Carols begin, with EFTPOS available for convenience.
As Head of Music, Mrs Naomi Turner, explains:
“Our students dedicate themselves to these performances, and what they create is nothing short of magical. The Carols are our gift to the community—a celebration of talent, tradition, and togetherness.”
From the angelic voices of the Junior Choir to the emotional final blessing, the Calrossy Carols are a journey through music, meaning and memory.
This year’s Calrossy Christmas Carols will be held on Tuesday, 9th December from 6.30pm at the William Cowper Campus . We warmly invite you to join us for this much-loved celebration, as we sing, reflect, and give thanks for the greatest gift of all.
Come early, enjoy the P&F BBQ from 5:30pm, and experience the joy of Christmas through the voices of our students and the heart of our community. EFTPOS will be available, and proceeds will support Calrossy initiatives.

Calrossy’s story is woven with moments like this—our 1976 Christmas Carols photo offers a window into the School’s rich heritage. A lot has changed since then, but some things remain timeless.
As we prepare to celebrate the Carols once again, this glimpse into the past reminds us that the heart of the event—faith, community, and the joy of singing together—continues to shine just as brightly today.
