From 17th to 21st August, a group of talented Calrossy students joined over 400 young musicians from across New South Wales for the annual HICES Music Festival, held at The Tops Conference Centre in Stanwell Tops. This vibrant event brought together students from Years 7 to 12 to celebrate their passion for music, collaboration and performance in an immersive five-day musical experience.
The festival included the World Music Academy and featured inspiring guest conductors Mr Guy Noble and Mr Mark O’Leary OAM, alongside a team of expert educators and mentors. Each day was packed with rehearsals, tutorials, outdoor activities and evening concerts – including a special “Preview Concert” leading up to the main performance.
The final rehearsals and Festival Concert were held at the iconic Sydney Town Hall, providing a world-class stage for students to showcase their talent in front of a diverse and appreciative audience.
We are incredibly proud of our Calrossy students who were selected to represent our school and take part in this exceptional musical opportunity. Their involvement reflects not only their musical talent but their commitment, collaboration and enthusiasm.

Our students were supported throughout the week by Mrs Naomi Turner, Calrossy’s Director of Music, who not only served as their supervising teacher but also as a music tutor during the camp. Her guidance, encouragement and musical expertise were invaluable throughout the festival. The group was also capably supported by Paige Saunders, whose assistance ensured the students were well cared for and the experience ran smoothly from start to finish.
A heartfelt thank you also goes to our Calrossy P&F Association and the Music Department , whose generous financial contributions ensured that our students could participate in the festival. Their support made it possible for these students to experience this unique and enriching opportunity—something they will carry with them for years to come.
This year’s festival was a wonderful opportunity for our students to refine their skills, connect with like-minded peers, and experience the joy of making music together. From full-day rehearsals to evening social events, the HICES Festival was both enriching and unforgettable.
Well done to our participants – you have represented our school and our values of Resilience, Selflessness, Integrity, and Inclusiveness with pride.
