Each week, Calrossy Anglican School boarders step away from their usual morning routines and into the kitchen at Hillvue Public School—volunteering their time to help run the Hillvue Breakfast Club.
The program was initiated by St Peter’s Anglican Church, South Tamworth, who had long been seeking to establish a breakfast initiative to support Hillvue students. Through a connection with Calrossy’s Boarding Leader of Wellbeing, Maria Buster, the school community became involved—and the club has grown from there.
Students from across all boarding year levels at Calrossy now take part, preparing breakfast and setting up a welcoming space for Hillvue students. From buttering toast and making scrambled eggs to greeting children at the gate and tidying up afterwards, the tasks are simple—but the impact is wide-reaching.

Across regional NSW, breakfast clubs are known to create spaces of calm and belonging—places where students begin their day with a full stomach and a friendly face.
Volunteers have been easy to find—many students say it’s a meaningful way to give back to the community and enjoy spending time with the younger students.
This partnership between a public school, a local church and Calrossy is a strong example of how regional communities can work together in practical ways to care for children and support families. The consistency of adult and student volunteers has helped build trust and strengthen connections between school communities.
During the recent NAIDOC Boarding Dinner, Hillvue School Captains shared their reflections on how the Breakfast Club has positively impacted their school culture. Calrossy students also shared how much they enjoy being part of something meaningful and relational.

The partnership continues to grow. During Calrossy’s Week of Wellbeing, students brought smoothies and muffins to the breakfast program, offering a health-focused addition to the usual fare. Looking ahead, students will bring a selection of books during Book Week to gift to Hillvue attendees—encouraging a love of reading alongside nourishment.
The Hillvue Breakfast Club is a reminder that meaningful change often begins with simple acts. By sharing meals and showing up with compassion, our boarders are creating moments of connection that reflect Calrossy’s commitment to hope and service.
