With 2026 only just beginning, anticipation is building across the Calrossy community as we prepare to welcome Mr Mark Lewis as our 17th Principal. He and his wife Leigh arrive in Tamworth this week, looking forward to settling into the rhythms of regional life and becoming part of the everyday heartbeat of Calrossy — its people, its culture and its future direction.
“The kindness and encouragement already extended to us have affirmed that Calrossy is a community marked by warmth, care and a shared commitment to young people,” Mr Lewis says. “We feel privileged to be joining a school with such strong foundations and a clear vision for the future.”
Mr Lewis brings more than 20 years of experience in education and over 15 years as Principal across three states. He is currently Principal of Trinity College in Gladstone, Queensland, and has previously led Penrith Anglican College (NSW) and Swan Christian College (WA). Earlier in his career, he taught and held leadership roles at Maitland Christian School, Covenant Christian School, Knox Grammar, and Green Point Christian College.
His leadership background is both broad and uniquely grounded. Beyond the classroom, he has worked in business and vocational training, overseen significant organisational change including campus mergers, and helped establish Western Australia’s first Trade Training Campus. He brings valuable insight into regional education, online learning and the needs of rural and remote families. While he has not previously led a boarding school, Mr Lewis has long partnered with residential colleges and understands the central place boarding holds in regional communities.
Mr Lewis and Leigh have been married for more than 30 years and are parents to four adult children — Jessiah, Caleb, Samantha and Jared — and grandparents to Malaki. Born in the UK to Welsh parents, he lived in New Zealand before moving to Australia in 1985, gaining a global perspective shaped by diverse communities and cultures.
He also brings lived experience of rural life.
“Having spent time living and working on farms earlier in my life, I developed a deep respect for the strength, perseverance and community spirit that define rural and regional Australia. Those experiences taught me the importance of hard work, adaptability and supporting one another — qualities I see reflected strongly in the Calrossy community and particularly within our boarding families.”
Mr Lewis describes himself as “not a typical school principal,” a distinction he views as a strength.
“My career has included time in business, VET and even equipment procurement,” he laughs. “But that variety has shaped how I lead. Schools are more than academic institutions — they are dynamic communities with real-world impact.”
Both he and Leigh are especially looking forward to becoming part of Calrossy’s boarding, regional and rural community fabric.
“Leigh and I look forward to being actively engaged in boarding life — meeting students, attending community events, and ensuring that boarders feel supported, cared for and at home. We understand the trust families place in the School when they send their children to board, and we are committed to honouring that trust fully.”
Mr Lewis will begin his role on Monday, January 5, ahead of students returning on January 29. Calrossy will formally induct him as the 16th Principal at a special service on Friday, January 30, at the William Cowper Campus.
As we count down to his first day, Calrossy warmly looks forward to welcoming Mr Mark Lewis and his family into our school community — a new chapter marked by faith, optimism and shared purpose.
