A group of Calrossy Secondary students recently took part in the Flash Start program, a one-day welding experience delivered in partnership with Belmore Engineering.

The program was designed to introduce students to trade-based career options—particularly those where welding is a fundamental skill. Held at Belmore’s Tamworth-based workshop, the session gave students the opportunity to develop foundational welding techniques and gain a firsthand understanding of safety, equipment use, and practical processes involved in the trade.

During the day, students worked with licensed tradespeople to construct their own mini fire pits, applying what they had learned in a meaningful hands-on project. Each participant was also provided with a work shirt, pants and boots, which they took home to support future training or work placements.

The Flash Start program not only allowed students to build confidence in a workshop environment, but also offered a valuable opportunity to explore career options outside the traditional classroom, reinforcing the importance of vocational learning pathways.

Calrossy is committed to creating purposeful learning experiences that prepare students for life beyond school. The School thanks Belmore Engineering for their partnership and contribution to student growth and career exploration.
