This year’s NAIDOC Week was marked by a series of heartfelt celebrations at Calrossy, beginning with a moving school assembly earlier in the term and continuing with a very special Boarding Dinner. The event brought together boarders, staff, and local guests to honour culture, share stories, and build connection through food and conversation.

The evening opened with a respectful Acknowledgement to Country delivered by Elie-Mae Price, setting the tone for a night of meaning and reflection.

Guests were then treated to a menu infused with native ingredients, thanks to a partnership with The Magic Pudding , who supplied the bush spices that brought the dishes to life. Dinner featured bush spiced lamb rump with kumara mash, broccolini and jus, followed by crepes with wattle seed syrup and ice cream.

A highlight of the evening was the attendance of the Hillvue Public School Principal and Captains, who shared heartfelt reflections during their speech. They spoke about the positive impact of their school’s Breakfast Club, and the growing partnership between Hillvue and Calrossy, including contributions and support from Calrossy students and staff. The initiative has helped build stronger relationships, wellbeing and student engagement at Hillvue, and their gratitude was warmly felt.

As a gesture of thanks, Hillvue gifted the boarders a Tamworth-themed Monopoly set, which was met with wide smiles and heartfelt appreciation. Calrossy responded with a small gift in return, symbolising the respect and connection between the two school communities.

Later in the evening, a student-led interview featured several boarders who recently returned from a Top End Immersion experience with Red Earth . Speaking about their time learning directly from Traditional Owners, students reflected deeply on identity, cultural understanding, connection to Country, and the importance of preserving and sharing Indigenous knowledge.

This dinner was more than a celebration—it was a living expression of community, learning and respect. Through food, conversation and partnership, our students experienced the value of walking together, listening and honouring story.
