Kamilaroi Shorthorns, the renowned stud of Calrossy Anglican School, delivered an outstanding performance at the 2025 National Shorthorn Show and Sale, highlighting both the strength of the breeding program and the skill of student handlers.
With 5 bulls and one special heifer attracting strong interest and competitive bidding, the Calrossy team once again affirmed its reputation for producing cattle of exceptional quality and character.
Leading the team was Kamilaroi Utopia, a quiet, soft-natured bull, and the leading exhibit for Kamilaroi. Utopia ranked in the top 10% of the breed for fat content, reflecting the genetic depth behind the Kamilaroi breeding program. His overall structural softness and depth of body earned him 3rd place in the Junior Led Bulls Class 4, and he went on to top our sale price at $11,000. He was beautifully handled by Tegan Rhodes (Year 11).

Kamilaroi Unit, handled by Stirling Wheatley (Year 10), continued the stud’s legacy of excellence. A quiet, easy-doing bull that displayed natural thickness, Unit is directly linked to Kamilaroi Loren, the dam of the Junior Champion Female at Rockhampton Beef Week 2024. He was well received by bidders, selling for $6,000.
Fetching $7,000 was Kamilaroi Ultimate, a structurally sound, soft, and very quiet bull handled by Shakaya Fenton (Year 12). Ultimate boasts impressive performance data, ranking in the top 10% for both fat and docility, and the top 20% for weaning weight, making him a compelling all-round package for commercial and stud producers alike.

Kamilaroi Untouched, handled by Regan Banks (Year 11), impressed with his natural thickness and strong data profile. He is homozygous polled, offering desirable genetic predictability, and ranked in the top 20% nationally for weaning weight, yearling weight, and docility. Untouched placed 4th in class 4 and sold for $6,000.
A highlight of the sale was Kamilaroi Anna Marie, the only heifer on offer. Handled with skill and care by Ellie McCulloch (Year 10), Anna Marie is part of a proven female line at Kamilaroi, with close relatives having won Junior Champion and Calf Champion at Beef 2024. She is an exceptional young female with outstanding temperament and show quality, and sold for $4,000 to a family in Marsden Park, Western Sydney. Anna Marie will be shown by a 10-year-old junior exhibitor—an exciting next chapter for this special heifer.
Rounding out the team was Kamilaroi Ultra, handled by Hayley Hodges (Year 11). A soft, easy-going roan bull, Ultra is also homozygous polled and demonstrated the depth of quiet temperament and breeding consistency that Kamilaroi is known for. He sold for $8,000.
With a sale average of $7,600 across the five bulls, and top price of $11,000, the results speak to the value and trust buyers place in Kamilaroi genetics. The success is a testament to the hard work of the Agriculture Department staff and students, whose dedication—from breeding to handling—continues to position Calrossy as a leader in school-based agriculture.
A sincere thank you goes to all bidders and underbidders who supported the sale and invested in the future of agriculture.
