Calrossy’s Junior School was filled with joy and laughter this week as students from Prep to Year 6 warmly welcomed their grandparents and special older friends for our annual Grandparents’ Day celebration.

Held on the beautiful William Cowper Campus, the event brought together generations in a special morning of connection, creativity and gratitude. Families gathered for a delightful Assembly, where each year group presented a performance honouring the theme of grandparents and the important role they play in our lives.

Each presentation was a heartfelt tribute, showcasing the students’ talents and the deep appreciation they have for their families:

  • Prep charmed the crowd with the sweet and joyful "Grandparents are Special" by Treetop Family.
  • Kindergarten brought smiles with a lively song and dance to "Home Among the Gum Trees" , the beloved Aussie classic by John Williamson.
  • Year 1 performed "Warra-ya Diiyaan-da (Stand by your family)" , with moving lyrics by Chris Hunt, celebrating the strength and unity of family.
  • Year 2 delighted the audience with the humorous poem "My Gramma Got a Camera" by Kenn Nesbitt.
  • Year 3 wowed the crowd with their energetic performance of the Zorba the Greek dance by Kostas Papadopoulos – a nod to the famous beach scene in the 1964 film.
  • Year 4 impressed with their instrumental rendition of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony , performed as part of the school’s Instrumental Program.
  • Year 5 shared a heartfelt Grandparents Poem , written with love and admiration.
  • Year 6 brought the house down with a dynamic bucket drumming routine by Olivier Cutz – an energetic and rhythmic finale to a morning full of celebration.

Adding to the magic of the morning, performances from our Infants Choir, Primary Choir, and Junior School Band were true highlights. The Primary Choir’s rendition of “When I Grow Up” was especially heartfelt, beautifully capturing the hopes and dreams of childhood. The Band and Infants Choir brought energy and joy to the Assembly, filling the hall with music and celebration.

After the Assembly, our guests were welcomed into classrooms, enjoyed morning tea, and explored the learning spaces where their grandchildren grow and thrive each day.
