House Music 2025 was nothing short of spectacular. Held on Friday, 30th May at the Brisbane St Campus, this annual favourite brought the entire Secondary school cohort together in a vibrant and uplifting celebration of performance, collaboration and house pride.
From the moment students arrived, the atmosphere was electric. Each house - Cuthbert, Sheean, Nicholls and Hamlin - proudly donned their colour, transforming the Senior Secondary campus into a living palette of red, blue, silver, green and yellow. Glitter, costumes and coordinated accessories added an extra layer of flair as students prepared to take the stage.
The competition featured a mix of music items, including whole-house choir group performances, small ensemble features and student-led choreography. In keeping with tradition, Middle School students focused their song choices around the theme of kindness, reflecting values of empathy, inclusion and connection. Meanwhile, the Senior Secondary students took on the challenge of performing popular hits from the new millennium (2000-2010), delivering a vibrant showcase of nostalgic chart-toppers and clever arrangements.
Weeks of rehearsals took place during the students’ normal school day in the lead-up to the event, with students making the most of their time to refine harmonies, practice choreography and prepare their performances. Each house delivered tightly rehearsed routines and creative interpretations of their chosen songs. From upbeat pop medleys to more soulful ballads, the variety on display highlighted not only the students’ musical ability but also their teamwork and leadership.

Behind each polished performance was a huge collective effort, with students working together across year levels to arrange music, teach harmonies, design costumes and coordinate rehearsals. It was a clear example of the values Calrossy holds dear - resilience, integrity, selflessness and inclusiveness - being lived out in real time.
The energy in the Peter Smart Hall was matched by the crowd, as peers, staff and guests cheered each performance with genuine enthusiasm. The competition element added excitement, but the spirit of the day was one of support and shared celebration.
We were also delighted to welcome many parents and family members to watch the event. Their presence added a special layer to the atmosphere, reminding us that House Music is not just a student event, but a wider celebration of the Calrossy community. Their cheers and smiles in the audience reinforced the sense of connection that events like these create.
House Music remains one of the defining moments of the school year - not only for the talent on display but for the way it brings students, staff and families together in celebration.
