Over the weekend, the Calrossy Boarding House was buzzing with energy as students stepped into the kitchen for a MasterChef-style cooking challenge — an activity that brought together skill-building, creativity and a healthy dose of fun.

The weekend activity encouraged students to make something from scratch, drawing on their own ideas and tastes. With the kitchen spaces in full use and appetising aromas in the air, the event became a highlight of the boarding week.

Dishes included:

  • Orange & poppyseed muffins
  • A cinnamon roll with homemade glaze
  • Chicken tenders & chips with dipping sauce
  • Quiche & salad
  • A class spaghetti bolognese

The challenge wasn't just about cooking — it encouraged independence, time management, presentation and problem-solving, all within the familiar environment of the Boarding House.

Activities like this continue to play an important role in Calrossy Boarding life , helping students develop life skills in a supportive, community-centred setting. They also offer a welcome opportunity to relax, have fun and share in something a little different from the school day routine.

Our thanks go to the students for their enthusiastic participation and to the staff who helped support the weekend. The kitchen might be packed away for now — but the skills, stories and sense of achievement will last well beyond.
