Nurturing Faith and Friendship – A Look Inside Our Year 6 Christian Studies Retreat

As our Year 6 students prepare to take their next steps beyond Junior School, they recently came together for a special Christian Studies Retreat—an opportunity to pause, reflect, and celebrate all they have learned throughout their years at Calrossy’s William Cowper Campus.

This retreat marked an important milestone—the culmination of a rich and purposeful journey of Christian learning. From their early days in Prep, Calrossy students have been immersed in stories of the Bible, conversations about faith, and opportunities to explore how Christian values shape their lives. The retreat was a chance to gather those threads—to look back with gratitude, and forward with hope.

The day unfolded through four meaningful rotations:

  • Reflection
  • Bible Study
  • Craft
  • Games

Each session was designed to reinforce key aspects of their Christian understanding while offering space for creativity, connection and personal growth.

Reflection was led by Calrossy Chaplain Rev. Mark Rundle and offered students a moment to slow down and consider their shared journey. A short interactive activity invited them to connect personal characteristics with peers—such as who began in Prep, who has a dog, or who’s moved from afar. It was a thoughtful and fun way to highlight the unique stories and strong bonds formed across their time in Junior School.

In the Bible Study session, students engaged with Scripture using a PowerPoint presentation and accompanying worksheet. Working both independently and collaboratively, they used their Bibles to complete activities that helped them explore key passages and reflect on how God’s Word can guide them into the next stage of life.

The Craft rotation, run by Mrs Leonie Collins, provided a creative outlet with purpose. Students learned to braid paracord into keychains, each one finished with a personally chosen Bible verse. The final product served not only as a keepsake from the day, but a tangible reminder of the faith they’ve built and the truths they carry with them.

Games, held outdoors, brought plenty of joy and energy to the day. Students worked in teams across a variety of challenges, where laughter was loud, teamwork was essential, and competition—at times—was fierce! These activities reinforced connection, communication and fun, reminding students that faith is also lived out through relationships and shared experience.

Throughout the day, students engaged deeply with ideas of integrity, selflessness, resilience, and inclusiveness —Calrossy’s core values grounded in the Gospel. They supported each other in conversation, listened respectfully, and shared openly about the things that matter most.

As they prepare to move forward—whether into Middle School at Calrossy or new learning environments—this retreat served as both a celebration and a commissioning. It reminded students that their foundation of faith is strong, and that they are equipped to carry it with them into all that lies ahead.

We are so proud of our Year 6 cohort and the growth they’ve shown—not only academically, but in character and spirit. This retreat was a powerful reminder that Christian education at Calrossy is more than a subject; it is the heart of who we are.
