How do things move? What is the difference between a push and a pull? And how can something we can’t even see — like air — create pressure?

These were the big questions explored when the team from Questacon Science Circus visited Calrossy’s Junior School on the William Cowper Campus.

Students from Kindergarten to Year 4 attended two engaging science shows, with both sessions presenting the same content tailored to suit each age group. Kindergarten to Year 2 participated in the first session, followed by Year 3 and Year 4, with all students investigating the science behind forces and pressure.

Through a series of interactive demonstrations and experiments, students observed how pushes and pulls affect movement, how forces can change the speed or direction of an object, and how air pressure works in everyday situations. The presenters encouraged students to predict outcomes, observe carefully and think critically about what they were seeing.

Several students from each session were invited to assist with experiments on stage, helping demonstrate key concepts in front of their peers. These hands-on moments reinforced learning in a practical and memorable way.

The visit supported current classroom learning in Science and Technology and connected strongly with units focused on how things move. Experiences such as this deepen understanding by linking theory with real-world application.

We thank the Questacon Science Circus team for an informative and engaging visit to Junior School.
