For boarders, sport plays a key role in promoting wellbeing, fostering social connections, and building a sense of belonging. Living away from home, they benefit from shared goals, teamwork, and the camaraderie developed through sporting activities.
At Calrossy, achievements are celebrated through sports awards, events like the Sports Dinner, and recognition at Presentation Days, highlighting the commitment and success of individuals and teams. In addition, sport and fitness are offered as elective options for Secondary students in their senior years, complementing the PDHPE curriculum and encouraging lifelong engagement in physical activity.
In the Junior School, PDHPE and sport are integral parts of the weekly curriculum, delivered by specialised staff. Calrossy Junior School provides students with a dedicated platform to develop movement skills, personal growth, and health awareness through a specialist PDHPE teacher. The syllabus focuses on three core areas: Health, Relationships, and Wellbeing; Healthy, Safe, and Active Lifestyles; and Movement Skills and Performance. These topics are explored through a combination of classroom learning and practical activities designed to enhance self-management, interpersonal skills, and movement proficiency. Students develop fundamental movement skills through a variety of age-appropriate activities, such as invasion games, fielding and striking games, target games, fitness circuits, choreographed dances, and Indigenous games and dances.
We balance academic and athletic commitments by integrating sport into the school schedule without compromising studies. Our teachers and coaches work together to help students manage their time effectively, allowing them to thrive in both areas. Through sport, students develop important skills like teamwork and time management, which contribute to their academic success and personal growth. Our facilities provide a solid foundation for students to engage in a wide range of sporting activities. With well-maintained sports fields, gymnasium spaces, and dedicated areas for training, students have the resources they need to practice, compete, and grow.
At Calrossy, sport is recognised as a key aspect of student wellbeing, social connection, and personal development. Beyond competition, sport fosters teamwork, resilience, and the camaraderie that builds lifelong friendships. We value the determination and passion our students bring to their chosen activities, as well as the unity and enjoyment that come from being part of a team.
"At Calrossy, sport embodies our core values of inclusiveness, resilience, and integrity," says Hampstead. "It's not just about the game—it’s about laying a strong foundation for life." As a School community, we celebrate not only exceptional sporting achievements but also participation, dedication, and sportsmanship, reinforcing the broader values that sport instils.
"Whether it's a student discovering a new passion or those representing us on a national stage, we value the journey as much as the destination."
With an emphasis on participation, encouragement, and excellence, Calrossy’s sporting program continues to inspire students to reach their full potential, fostering a lifelong passion for sport and a sense of belonging within the school community.
