Calrossy students from Years 8 to 10 have recently taken important steps in planning their academic future through a series of engaging Subject Information Sessions held at both the William Cowper and Brisbane Street campuses.

The Year 8 and 9 session, held on the morning of Wednesday 25 June, provided students and families with valuable insight into the elective options available for Stage 5. Faculty staff from across the curriculum—including English, Maths, Science, PDHPE, HSIE, TAS, Creative Arts, Music, Languages and VET—were on hand to discuss subject choices and answer questions. A visual highlight was the launch of new fabric bulletin boards, offering snapshots of each faculty’s focus through imagery and examples of student work.

These early senior years offer students the chance to select two elective subjects that complement their core studies. With support from their teachers and parents, students were encouraged to explore areas of personal interest while also considering the academic demands and skills involved in each subject.

Careers Advisor Mr Charles Impey was also available to speak with families about the TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) options, opening pathways into trades, hospitality, agriculture and more—some of which can be pursued alongside school studies.

Adding to the atmosphere, the morning coincided with Calrossy’s festive Christmas Mufti Day supporting Anglicare and Operation Christmas Child —a fun bonus for students as they gathered information and enjoyed the colour and community spirit that comes with end-of-term celebrations.

The following afternoon, Year 10 students and families gathered at the Brisbane Street Campus to explore subject offerings for Stage 6. Faculty staff again guided discussions, this time focusing on HSC subjects and how students might tailor their program to suit future study, career or training goals. Teachers also provided guidance on how to balance subject interests with expected workloads and the level of academic rigour.

A highlight of the Year 10 session was the participation of several external representatives, including guests from Apprenticeships Support Australia , the University of New England , and TAFE . These experts shared insights on a broad range of pathways—from university and vocational training to apprenticeships and work-ready options—emphasising that success after school can take many forms.
