She’s still in Year 12, but Thea Sheridan is already making waves in the world of healthcare.
Calrossy is thrilled to share that Thea has been named the 2025 New England School-Based Trainee of the Year, a prestigious title awarded as part of the NSW Regional Training Awards recently.
Thea is completing her Certificate III in Health Services Assistance (Acute Care) through a school-based traineeship with Hunter New England Health, gaining more than 500 hours of hands-on experience at Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital while juggling her HSC studies at Calrossy.
Her passion for healthcare was sparked early — inspired by childhood programs like Paramedics Australia and Operation Ouch — and deepened by seeing firsthand the life-changing care provided by nurses to members of her own family. Since Year 9, Thea has had a clear goal: to contribute meaningfully to her community through health care.

“Thea is the perfect example of what’s possible when passion and opportunity meet,” said Calrossy Careers Advisor, Mr Charles Impey, who accompanied her to the awards.
“She’s embraced every challenge with professionalism and purpose, and we couldn’t be prouder.”
Beyond the hospital setting, Thea volunteers with the Tamworth Netball Association, where her leadership skills continue to flourish. Her ability to balance academics, professional training, and community service is a testament to her work ethic and personal integrity.
The NSW Training Awards, now in their 70th year, celebrate excellence in vocational education and training. They are conducted annually by Training Services NSW, part of the NSW Department of Education, and aim to recognise students, teachers, employers and RTOs who are excelling in their field. One of the program’s key goals is to identify future Vocational Education and Training (VET) Ambassadors — young people whose stories and values inspire others.
As a regional winner, Thea will now progress to the State phase in September, where judges assess not only professional excellence, but also the character, values, and potential of candidates to become advocates for vocational learning.

This award reflects not only Thea’s extraordinary commitment, but also the strength of Calrossy’s vocational education pathways — which continue to open real-world opportunities for students across a range of industries.
Congratulations, Thea — your school and community are behind you every step of the way.
