This week, Calrossy’s Year 10 students stepped beyond the classroom and into a week of meaningful, hands-on experiences as part of the Futures Program—a specially designed initiative that equips young people with practical skills, broadens their horizons, and supports their journey towards life after school.
The Futures Program offered students a diverse range of microcredentials, excursions and immersive learning experiences across multiple locations—both on and off campus. Each opportunity was designed to build confidence, inspire curiosity and open doors to future pathways.
From nationally recognised training to university immersion and outdoor expeditions, the program reflects Calrossy’s commitment to a holistic education—one that nurtures capable, resilient and future-ready learners.
What students experienced:
UNE SkillUP! Program
In partnership with the University of New England, this course complemented the school curriculum by helping students develop strong academic foundations, personal insight and effective learning habits that will serve them for years to come.
White Card Certification
Students undertaking the White Card course gained essential safety knowledge, a key requirement for anyone interested in pursuing work in the construction industry.
CPR and First Aid Training
Through accredited first aid training, students built skills that could one day save a life—valuable in the workplace, at home or in the community.

PCYC Safe Drivers Course
Designed to support learner drivers, this course offered strategies for staying safe behind the wheel, with an emphasis on responsibility, risk reduction and informed decision-making.

Curiosity Expedition – Newcastle
This group travelled to Newcastle for a unique blend of academic and cultural experiences. Highlights included a university campus tour, a mock trial, visits to local heritage and art sites, wildlife encounters, and time exploring the Anna Bay sand dunes.
Adventure+ Expedition – Duke of Ed Bronze Journey
For those seeking a physical challenge, this hike from North Brother Mountain to Port Macquarie offered a chance to build teamwork, independence and resilience. Students navigated trails and coastline as part of their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award requirements.
Each opportunity within the Futures Program is designed to meet students where they are—and help them step confidently into where they’re going. Whether developing real-world skills, exploring study or career options, or simply trying something new, students embraced the experience with enthusiasm.
The program is a powerful reminder that learning doesn’t just happen in classrooms. At Calrossy, we’re proud to offer experiences that shape not only academic outcomes, but also character, courage and confidence.
