Last week, our Junior School community gathered to celebrate an extraordinary group of students as they officially marked the end of their Primary years. The 2025 Year 6 Farewell Assembly was a heartfelt and joyful send-off, honouring a journey filled with learning, growth, and laughter.
With the theme “Walk of Fame” , the assembly traced the unique path of this cohort from Prep to Year 6. Each year was represented by a star, shining a light on the memorable moments, quirky highlights and milestones that made the journey unforgettable.
It all began in 2018—a year of scrunchies , the Fortnite dance craze , and the debut of Bluey . But perhaps the most legendary memory was The Great Prep Escape , when a group of very determined students attempted to tunnel under the fence in a bid for freedom—an event that has gone down in Junior School history.
In 2019, the fabled Golden Pencil made its appearance, and the students headed out on adventures to Bunnings , rode the mini trains , and met a particularly grumpy emu at the marsupial park . It was a year of laughter and learning, where every voice truly mattered.

By 2020, the world felt upside down, but the class found joy in the little things. A handful of Skittles became the perfect reward for a job well done, and Japanese lessons saw students throwing beans during the Setsubun Festival . Resilience was quietly built, day by day.
In 2021, the students were entrusted with caring for baby chicks , who were loved dearly—even if they did make the occasional daring escape! Bike safety day took a creative turn and became more of a bike stunt show , while games like Monopoly and Throw Throw Burrito sparked competitive energy and lots of laughter. Through it all, the class learned the value of teamwork and kindness.

Then came 2022, remembered for the iconic Big Cola Assembly and the infamous “Do Not Lose It” folder , which was, ironically, lost on several occasions. Cocomelon was a soundtrack some parents may never forget, Rubik’s Cubes made a comeback, and finishing work often meant a few rounds of Just Dance as a reward.
To honour these memories, the entire Junior School joined together for a whole-school Just Dance session to “The Final Countdown” —a high-energy celebration of the Year 6 cohort’s joyful spirit and sense of fun.
In 2023, the adventures continued—from chasing bush turkeys in Canberra, to building bird boxes , creating magic with iMovie , and tasting teas with mixed reactions. The Sydney excursion talent show revealed hidden skills and brought plenty of laughs. And tying it all together was the unofficial anthem of the year — “Flowers” by Miley Cyrus—echoing through classrooms, rehearsals and performances alike.

In 2024, students demonstrated true teamwork , welcoming eCalrossy classmates into their community and forming deep connections during the Milson Island experience. They showed that leadership isn’t about being the loudest voice in the room—but the one who lifts others up. Naturally, funny cat videos also played a part in daily classroom life.
And in 2025—their final year—this vibrant cohort kept the spirit alive. From teaching maintenance staff how to dab , to cheering as Mrs Lamb took the big leap at Questacon, they continued making memories right to the end.
As the assembly came to a close, the entire Year 6 cohort took the stage one final time to perform a revised version of “Hey Soul Sister” , complete with custom lyrics reflecting their years at Calrossy. It was heartfelt, funny, and full of joy—just like the students themselves. The performance was followed by a final, symbolic walk out of the hall , cheered on by students and staff alike.

These young people leave Calrossy Junior School with so much more than memories. They take with them lasting friendships, grounded values, and a deep sense of belonging. As they step into Middle School, we are confident they will continue to shine—full of courage, compassion, and character.
We offer our sincere thanks to the dedicated Year 6 teachers and students for the creativity, care and hard work that went into preparing such a thoughtful and entertaining assembly. Thank you also to the families and friends who joined us to celebrate this special milestone and support our students on their journey.
