There was a wonderful buzz around campus last week as eCalrossy students began their Winter Residential. As we wandered between classrooms, workshops and practical learning spaces, it was impossible not to notice students embracing every opportunity to learn, challenge themselves and enjoy being together in person.
Our first stop was the Junior School, where Year 5 and 6 students were fully immersed in a week of creativity, adventure and personal growth.
The Pod 3 classroom was a hive of activity throughout the week, transforming from Spanish dancing and creative craft sessions with Mrs Taylor to a stage where students stepped outside their comfort zones to confidently deliver speeches on topics they were passionate about. From Michael Jackson to how to wheel stand a motorbike, the variety of presentations made for an entertaining and engaging session as students conquered the challenge of speaking in front of an audience.
Outside, there was plenty of excitement as students enjoyed the Junior School playground before heading off on a bouldering excursion with our Year 9 students, tying in with their PDHPE learning. Evenings were just as memorable, with boarding house games and a trip to the cinema to watch Monsters and Minions —a movie that certainly divided opinions!

Across campus, our Year 7 students were making the most of the chance to swap their usual Zoom classrooms for hands-on experiences. At the Pickle Pit, they enthusiastically embraced pickleball, with friendly competition quickly taking over the courts. Back in Technology, students designed and created their own canvas bags and aprons, while throughout the week they experienced the rhythms of everyday school life, strengthening friendships and building confidence beyond the screen.
The week continued at Tangara and beyond, where our Year 9 Agriculture students were busy putting their learning into practice. Visits to Nundle Woollen Mill and Taminda Wool Traders gave students a deeper understanding of wool production and quality characteristics before they headed to the farm to drench, vaccinate and wean Dorper lambs, weigh feedlot cattle and evaluate their chicken experiment investigating the impact of light on egg production. Every activity reinforced practical agricultural skills while highlighting the importance of teamwork, communication and problem-solving.
As the week drew to a close, there were certainly a few tired faces by Friday afternoon, but even more smiling ones. The friendships formed, new skills developed and experiences shared made every moment worthwhile and are exactly what make Residential such an important part of the eCalrossy experience.

A special shout-out also goes to Bailey and Finn, who represented eCalrossy brilliantly when they were interviewed by Seven News during Residential, sharing what makes learning through eCalrossy and coming together on campus such a unique experience.
With another successful Winter Residential complete, we're already looking ahead to an exciting milestone in 2027 as we welcome our first Year 10 students into the expanding eCalrossy program. We can't wait to see even more students experience the connection, hands-on learning and strong sense of community that make Residential such a valued part of the eCalrossy journey.
