Calrossy Anglican School is celebrating an extraordinary result at the 2026 Wingham Beef Week, with Calrossy Raider led by Ellie McCulloch awarded the prestigious Grand Champion Steer Overall title.

In what was the standout moment of the competition for the Calrossy team, Ellie first led Raider to victory in Class 3.2 of the Heavy Middleweight section before the steer went on to claim Champion Heavy Middleweight Steer and ultimately Grand Champion Steer Overall against elite competition from across the state.

Raider, a Limousin x Angus steer bred by Shad Bailey, impressed judges throughout the week with its outstanding quality and presentation, capping off a remarkable achievement for Ellie and the School’s agricultural program.

The success came as part of an exceptional week for Calrossy students, who delivered impressive performances across parader and led hoof competitions at one of Australia’s premier youth cattle events.

With more than 400 students competing in the parader classes alone, Calrossy students showcased not only their livestock knowledge and handling skills, but also the dedication, teamwork and professionalism that underpin the School’s agricultural and show team programs.

Leading the way in the Parader Classes was Grace Newcombe, who claimed first place in the 16 Years Paraders before being awarded Reserve Champion Overall Parader across all age groups — an outstanding achievement in such a competitive field.

Other strong parader results included:

Harriet Callaghan – 5th place, 13 Years Paraders

Ava Marzato – 3rd place, 14 Years Paraders

Hugo Blomfield – 5th place, 15 Years Paraders

Hayden Evans – 2nd place, 16 Years Paraders

Stirling Wheatley – 3rd place, 16 Years Paraders

The Led Hoof competitions also saw Calrossy students achieve outstanding success across multiple divisions.

Ava Marzato led Calrossy Tigress to victory in Class 1.1 before going on to win Lightweight Champion from a field of around 30 animals. Tigress was a purebred Limousin heifer bred by the Bayliss family.

Kenzi Ison led Calrossy Spence’s Panther to win Class 2.1 in the Light Middleweight section. Panther was a Limousin x Angus steer purchased from Spences Show Steers in South Australia.

Morgan Heap placed fourth in Class 3.2 with Calrossy Rooster , a purebred Simmental steer bred by Richard Fitzgerald of Kunderang Pastoral, Nundle.

Grace Newcombe also impressed in the Heavyweight section, leading Calrossy Titan to third place in Class 4.2. Titan was a purebred Limousin steer bred by Grace and her family.

Hugo Blomfield placed sixth in Class 4.3 with Calrossy Bronco , a Limousin steer bred by Spences Show Steers.

Evy Walsh enjoyed outstanding success with Calrossy Manly , winning Class 4.4 in the Heavyweight division before going on to claim Reserve Champion Heavyweight Steer. Manly was a Limousin steer purchased from the Tamworth Saleyards.

Isabella Wheatley placed second in Class 4.4 with Calrossy Knight , a Limousin steer bred by Nicolas Burne-Quinn, while Aiden Rudder placed fifth in the same class with Calrossy Cowboy , an Angus x Simmental steer bred by the Fitzgerald family of Kunderang Pastoral, Nundle.

Adding to the School’s success, Ellie McCulloch and Annabelle Smith both qualified for the finals of the Junior Judging competition, with Herdsman and Carcass results still to come.

Calrossy extends its thanks to the sponsors of the Grand Champion Steer competition including Tuff Rock, Wingham Beef Exporters, Scriveners and Do a Bull Artificial Breeding Services for their support of youth agricultural programs and industry opportunities.
