The Junior School community gathered for a special Mother’s Day celebration last Friday, presented by Year 3 students at the William Cowper Campus. Filled with laughter, reflection and gratitude, the assembly honoured mothers, grandmothers and the special women who play such an important role in the lives of students.
The presentation opened with the reminder from Proverbs 1:8, “Do not forsake your mother’s teaching,” setting the tone for a morning focused on appreciation and thankfulness.
One of the most entertaining moments of the assembly came as Year 3 students confidently stepped up to the podium to explain some of the “funny things ladies say” — and what they really mean. Phrases such as “Were you born in a tent?” , “Do I look like your servant?” , “Because I said so, that’s why!” and “If your friend jumped off a bridge, would you jump off the bridge as well?” had the audience laughing along. Students explained that many of these questions are rhetorical and not always meant to be answered!

A highlight of the morning was a presentation titled A Recipe for Someone Special . In small groups, students shared a recipe of love created from the heart:
One cup of love,
Two handfuls of patience,
Stir in kindness,
Sprinkle laughter,
Mix in strong hugs,
Pour in wise words,
Add a pinch of courage,
And don’t forget care.
Whisk together gently,
Bake it every day,
Serve it with warmth,
Share it freely,
And watch it grow.
Students also shared a Mother’s Day blessing with the audience, thanking mothers, grandmothers and special guests for their love, care and support.

The assembly concluded with prayer, awards and messages before families enjoyed a beautiful video montage featuring Year 3 students with their mothers, grandmothers and other special women in their lives, alongside photos of teachers with the important women who have supported them.
Following the assembly, guests were invited to morning tea before visiting classrooms to receive handmade Mother’s Day gifts created by the students. The Photo Booth was another highlight of the morning, with families enjoying the opportunity to capture special memories together.

The Mother’s Day celebration was a joyful occasion for the Junior School community, providing an opportunity to pause and give thanks for the mothers, grandmothers and special women whose love, encouragement and care help shape the lives of our students each day.
