Junior School celebrated the magic of books, characters and storytelling throughout Book Week, with a week of activities inspired by this year’s theme, Symphony of Stories.
The theme celebrates the harmonious nature of storytelling and the way stories, ideas and characters intertwine with one another – something reflected across Junior School throughout the week.
A highlight was our annual Book Week Parade, which filled Bishop Peter Chiswell Hall at the William Cowper Campus with colour and creativity. Students arrived dressed as characters inspired by stories old and new, showcasing an incredible variety of books and imaginative costume ideas.
Our students weren’t the only ones getting into character. Junior School teachers provided plenty of entertainment, bringing Toy Story 5 to life with Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Jessie, the Aliens, Slinky Dog, new character Lily Pad and many more making their way through the Hall.
Beyond the parade, the celebration of reading continued throughout the week. Students put their book knowledge to the test with a Book Hunt in the Library, while arts and crafts activities gave all year groups – including our eCalrossy students – another creative way to explore the Book Week theme.
Our newly appointed Library Monitors for Semester Two also stepped into their new roles, sharing stories and reading with fellow students as part of the week’s activities.
Book Week finished with a special opportunity to reconnect through Buddy Reading, bringing together our Year 1 and Year 6 students. The activity reunited buddy groups from last year, when our current Year 6 students were in Year 5 and supported their younger buddies as they began Kindergarten.
From dressing up and getting creative to searching for books and sharing stories together, Book Week provided plenty of opportunities to celebrate reading in its many forms. It was a fitting reflection of this year’s Symphony of Stories theme and the way stories can bring different ages, ideas and experiences together across our Junior School community.
