Calrossy’s senior musicians celebrated an important milestone last Thursday evening, coming together for Coffee, Cake and Cheese, the final Music recital for our Year 11 and Year 12 students in 2026.
Students, families, teachers and members of the wider Calrossy community were welcomed to the Dr. Ted Giblin OAM Centre, beginning the evening outdoors over grazing boards before moving into the Auditorium for the night’s performances.
Opening the recital were our HSC Music I, II and Extension students, each sharing pieces from their repertoire as they continue towards their final HSC Music performances.
Among the evening’s repertoire were George Gershwin’s I’ve Got Rhythm and Jane Hammond’s Anywhere on piano, while Rebecca performed Sara Bareilles’ Gravity and Lovefool by N. Persson and P. Svensson. Her performances came just one day after returning from overseas, making her appearance on stage an especially impressive effort.
Our Year 11 Music students then took their turn in the spotlight, offering a glimpse of the talent continuing through Calrossy’s senior Music program. Chelsea Smith performed on flute, Isaac Zechel on guitar, and Oliver Scott and Hudson Clunas on piano. Sid Cooper and Jake Brand also performed together, with Sid on drums and Jake on bass guitar.
Beyond the performances, the evening was an opportunity to reflect on the individual journeys of our Year 12 musicians. Director of Music, Mrs Naomi Turner, shared some of the memories and quirks that have defined each student’s time in Music at Calrossy, bringing plenty of smiles and laughter from those gathered. Among them was the story of Angus’ secret talent for piano, which was gradually discovered over the course of his musical journey at the School.
The celebrations continued with the presentation of gifts to our senior musicians. Each Year 12 student received a gift chosen with their instrument of choice in mind, providing a personal memento of their time studying Music at Calrossy. Looking ahead to their own senior Music journey, our Year 11 students received stationery packs filled with items they will put to good use as they further their studies.
Our HSC Music students then came together to cut a special celebratory cake marking their final recital, which was shared and enjoyed by students, families, staff and guests.
The evening also celebrated the connections that continue beyond graduation. It was wonderful to welcome Calrossy alumni back for the recital, while Class of 2025 graduate Annabel Scott, now studying Music and Performing Arts at university, shared a special virtual message with our Year 12 students. Having completed the HSC herself only last year, Annabel offered some timely encouragement to keep going with the finish line now so close.
We also extend our sincere thanks to all of the accompanists who generously shared their time and talents in supporting our students throughout the evening.
Coffee, Cake and Cheese Night was a fitting final recital for our Year 12 musicians and another valuable performance opportunity for Year 11, celebrating not only the music performed on stage but also the memories, friendships and support behind it.
Congratulations to every student who performed, and thank you to the families, teachers, accompanists, alumni and members of our community who joined us for this special evening.
